At Zimmer Biomet, we focus on improving your breastbone recovery, so
that your surgeon can focus on your heart. The healing of your
breastbone can affect how quickly you return to everyday
activities.
Fortunately, there are many options available
to support bone healing after heart surgery. The breastbone closure
option discussed in this website is SternaLock® Blu, a
plate and screw system designed to stabilize (fixate) your breastbone
after heart surgery.
As part of your preparation for
surgery, you may want to carefully review your options for breastbone
(sternal) closure. This will allow you to make an informed decision on
what breastbone closure system will most effectively stabilize your
breastbone, minimize pain and help you get back to the activities you
enjoy as quickly as possible.
Results of breastbone
closure plates and screws (rigid fixation) will vary due to health,
weight, activity and other variables. Not all patients are candidates
for this product and/or procedure. Only a medical professional can
determine the treatment appropriate for your specific condition.
Appropriate post-operative activities will differ from patient to
patient. Talk to your surgeon about whether rigid fixation is right
for you and the risks associated which include, but are not limited
to, infection, implant wear, loosening, screw or plate breakage or
incomplete bone healing. For a complete list of risks associated with
Zimmer Biomet’s rigid fixation system, See Patient
Risk Information.
