New Webinar:
Zimmer Biomet Presents: Remote Therapeutic Monitoring (RTM) Reimbursement Overview
WHAT IS REMOTE THERAPEUTIC MONITORING?
Remote Therapeutic Monitoring (RTM) services monitor health conditions, including musculoskeletal system status, respiratory system status, therapy (medication) adherence, and therapy (medication) response. RTM is intended for the management of patients utilizing medical devices that collect non-physiological data.1,2 The data can be self-reported as well as digitally uploaded.3
WHAT ARE THE RTM REIMBURSEMENT REQUIREMENTS FOR PERSONA IQ AND mymobility?
RTM services can be billed once during a 30-day period/calendar month, as long as at least 16 days of data was collected from the medical device. Providers must provide at least 20 minutes of RTM services (e.g., reading and interpreting data/reports, changing care plans, communicating with the patient, documenting the RTM information and services) and have at least one interactive communication with the patient/caregiver within the calendar month.2
Beginning January 1, 2023, physicians and certain non-physician practitioners (e.g., PAs and NPs) may bill for services furnished by clinical staff under general supervision, provided that the other requirements for “incident to” services are met. However, for other qualified health care practitioners (e.g., CSWs, CRNAs, PTs, OTs, SLPs), RTM services must be personally furnished by the billing qualified health care practitioner or, in the case of a PT or OT, by a therapy assistant under the PT’s or OT’s supervision.4
Both mymobility and Persona IQ are registered and defined as medical devices by the FDA, allowing physicians to provide and bill for RTM services when all clinical work and billing requirements are met.1
