Hip Replacement Approaches

Total Hip Replacement

A total hip replacement is considered when the painful parts of your hip are damaged. During total hip replacement surgery, the damaged hip parts are replaced with implants consisting of three components: a socket, ball, and stem. The outer shell of the socket is usually made of metal and the inner shell consists of plastic. When the metal ball is joined with the socket, the new hip can allow for smooth, functioning joint that prevents painful bone-on-bone contact.

Robotic Assisted Hip Replacement

In situations where precision, personalization and minimally invasive approaches are particularly beneficial, your surgeon may recommend robot assisted hip replacement surgery. It’s important to understand that the robot does not operate on its own. It does not move unless your surgeon prompts it to. Your surgeon is in the operating room the entire time and is making all the decisions throughout your hip surgery.
