Our Global Compliance Team

Zimmer Biomet’s Global Compliance Team is comprised of highly-skilled and dedicated lawyers and compliance professionals in the United States, Mexico, Brazil, Switzerland, Spain, the Netherlands, United Kingdom, Singapore, Japan, and China. The team includes four regional compliance teams supporting the business in the US & Canada, Latin America, Europe, Middle East & Africa (“EMEA”), and Asia Pacific (“APAC”) regions, as well as three global compliance teams responsible for compliance operations, investigations, and compliance monitoring. Collectively, these teams work together to ensure that all Zimmer Biomet Team Members have the training, tools and guidance necessary to perform their jobs in a legal, ethical and compliant manner.

Compliance Officers

Angela is the head of Zimmer Biomet’s global Compliance function and the regional Legal function in Asia Pacific. She is responsible for the provision of a broad spectrum of legal and compliance advice and solutions to both the Zimmer Biomet organization as a whole and to the Asia Pacific business entities, including the implementation of compliance policies and training to Team Members and business partners as well as the screening of business partners.

Prior to joining Zimmer Biomet in 2010, Angela worked for Covidien in Singapore, Lloyds TSB Bank plc in London and Texas Instruments in its European and Asia Pacific regional offices. She has extensive international legal and compliance experience in the healthcare, financial services and technology sectors.

Julie joined Zimmer Biomet in 2008 and serves as its U.S. and Canada Compliance Officer. Prior to that, she worked in a variety of legal positions, including as the Deputy Solicitor General for the State of Indiana and as an associate for both Sidley & Austin and Baker & Daniels (now Faegre Baker Daniels). Before starting her legal career, Julie managed a trading desk on the trading floor of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. She received a J.D. from Notre Dame Law School and Bachelor of Arts degree in economics and business administration from Hanover College.

Juan is responsible for the compliance function for Zimmer Biomet in Latin American and has been with the company since 2011. Before joining Zimmer Biomet, Juan worked in a variety of compliance positions, including as Greater China, India and Russia Compliance Officer for Abbott Laboratories. He also served as a Chemical Officer and Judge Advocate General in the U.S. Army Reserve, from which he retired in 2009 with the rank of Major. Prior to his compliance career, Juan worked as a scientist for Abbott Laboratories. He has a J.D. from the University of Puerto Rico and Ph.D. in Endocrinology, Physiology and Animal Science from Auburn University.

Heidi has led the Zimmer Biomet EMEA Compliance team since 2010. Before joining Compliance, Heidi spent eight years as Associate Counsel in the Zimmer Biomet EMEA Legal Department. Heidi has extensive international experience in legal and compliance-related topics in the medical device industry, and she has been an active member of the compliance committees for various medical device industry associations in Europe and the Middle East. Prior to joining Zimmer Biomet, Heidi served several years as Legal Counsel for SAir Group, the holding entity of Swissair Ltd. She graduated from the Eberhard-Karl University of Tubingen, Germany, with a degree in law and obtained a second state exam in law at the District Court Constance, Germany. Heidi also holds a Ph.D. in law from the University of Berne, Switzerland and is a graduated Compliance Officer (Univ.) from University of Augsburg, Germany.

Benji leads the Compliance function for Zimmer Biomet in the Asia Pacific region. Before joining Zimmer Biomet, Benji was in private practice in Washington, D.C., where he focused on white collar criminal defense, government investigations, and corporate compliance matters. He regularly represented multinational corporations before the DOJ and SEC in matters involving the FCPA, and has conducted internal investigations and anti-corruption compliance reviews throughout Asia, Europe and Latin America. Benji received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Public and International Affairs from Princeton University and his J.D. from Columbia Law School. He is a licensed attorney in New York and Washington, D.C.

Global Compliance Offices

Prior to joining Zimmer Biomet in 2015, Mike spent three years on assignment to Zimmer’s APAC Legal & Compliance team in Singapore. Previously, he was part of Zimmer’s external legal team, which successfully represented Zimmer before the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Mike has significant experience handling anti-corruption compliance matters and conducting internal investigations for Fortune 100 clients given his work at the international law firms of White & Case, Fulbright & Jaworski (now Norton Rose Fulbright), and most recently Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe. Before attending law school, Mike worked for a strategic communications firm in Washington, D.C., specializing in advertising, political consulting, grassroots organizing, and public advocacy. Mike received a J.D. from William & Mary Law School and Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Georgetown University. He is a licensed attorney in Virginia and Washington, D.C.

Josh joined Zimmer Biomet in 2016 as Vice President, Global Compliance Operations, following a six-month secondment to the Global Compliance Operations team.  Prior to joining Zimmer Biomet, Josh spent eight years at two international law firms, focusing on white collar criminal defense, government investigations, and corporate compliance matters.  Josh’s practice included representations of multi-national companies and individuals in white collar criminal proceedings before U.S. regulators, and federal and state prosecutors.  He holds a B.A. in English and Theology and an M.A. in Theology from Boston College, as well as a J.D. from St. John’s University School of Law.

Carrie serves as Director of Compliance Monitoring at Zimmer Biomet. She began her career in the medical device industry 16 years ago, working over a decade at Zimmer in various finance and compliance roles. Prior to joining legacy Biomet, Carrie spent four years with GE Healthcare addressing transparency and FCPA compliance. She has a Master of Arts degree in industrial and organizational psychology from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology and is currently pursuing Ph.D. coursework in Psychology. She received an MBA in healthcare management from Indiana Wesleyan University and Bachelor of Arts degree in business administration and marketing from the Indiana Institute of Technology.
